| Summary: | This case study explains how we used content analysis of publicly available online data to investigate which digital technology (DT) skills are most in demand by employers of entry-level accounting jobs globally. We undertook this study after noticing a mismatch between the accounting profession's required DT competencies and those integrated into accounting curricula. We wanted to analyze online job ads to understand whether the gap could be driven by the competencies employers were currently asking for. We explain why content analysis and publicly available online data were chosen, how the research design was developed and implemented, and what challenges we encountered in collecting and analyzing job ads across accounting functions, different regions around the world, and different employer types. |
