Notes: The Cushing Library/Rare Books/Meserole Collection copy is inscribed in ink in front by Amos Lawrence to T. C. Grattan, Esq., Boston, Feb. 14, 1841. Amos Lawrence (1786-1852) was an important merchant and philanthropist in Boston. T. C. (Thomas Colley) Grattan was a British politician and author who was appointed the British consul to the state of Massachusetts in 1839. The book is also inscribed by Charles Davenport in pencil on verso of fly-leaf.
