Description
Summary:This case describes the merger between Sony Pictures Networks India and Zee Entertainment Enterprises (ZEE) in 2022, which produced the second-largest broadcast network in India after Disney+ Hotstar. Sony was strong in specific segments, ZEE was strong in the regional markets, and the merger produced a company that displayed synergy stemming from the strengths of the combined parts. The case explores the dynamics between the family-run ZEE-founded by father Subhash Chandra Goel and currently run by his son, CEO Punit Goenka-and the professionally run Sony. The case examines the challenges that each company faced. It also considers the broadcast industry in India before examining the scenario from each company's viewpoint. Students will be asked to evaluate the options faced by the CEO, in lieu of the expansion, after the merger.
