| Summary: | This case introduces students to Ludesco, an international festival of games and gaming experiences held in Switzerland annually since its inception in 2010. It has since gone on to become a huge success with more than 10,000 visitors attending the tenth edition of the festival in 2019 which chartered more than 2,000% in growth since its humble beginnings in 2010. This case explores the concept of storytelling and transmedia storytelling as a social media strategy for Ludesco. The festival had consistently provided top-notch, unforgettable experiences that resulted in word-of-mouth referrals and rave reviews in the local news. Since Ludesco was managed by a small group of volunteers, they only had the capacity to focus on building the festival, which meant managing Ludesco's social media accounts was not a priority. As Ludesco had a presence on digital platforms, it was ideal for running a transmedia storytelling campaign that would meet the goals of audience participation and engagement as well as generate buzz for the festival. To ensure a winning strategy, Ludesco needed to craft a gripping story and work out how to distribute it across multiple platforms, as well as use key metrics to measure its success. This case provides students with the opportunity to combine creativity in developing a content strategy while ensuring engagement through transmedia storytelling. |
