Description
Summary:This project intends to demonstrate how survival analysis has been employed to examine determinants of staff retention in human resource (HR) management research. Most extant studies have been devoted to investigate self-reported job satisfaction-turnover intention relationship, which has led to inconclusive findings, partly due to the subjective nature of the measurement. In this project, we examine the person-job fit (career progression) and person-organization fit (network at the organization) and duration of employment by using administratively recorded information. The reason for using survival analysis is explained and justified, and 13 years of personnel records of a large company in China were used for the analysis. It confirmed our hypotheses: good career progression and network within the organization lead to longer job tenure. To make it user friendly in terms of using survival analysis, we detailed the process through identification of the topic, research design, rationale for the use of survival analysis, and the distinctive steps involved to run survival analysis.
