Summary:In the mid 19th century Justus von Liebig, an organic chemist, invented a process of making good tasting and easily digestible meat extracts with a long shelf life. His product became exceedingly popular, and was soon produced in the beef-producing countries of South America (Uruguay, Argentina) as well as in Great Britain. Later on, the company began producing calendars, trading cards and other collectible ephemera to market its products.
Item Description:The card opens to a pop-up illustration of cattle in a pasture and men on horseback wearing gaucho costume, with a can of Liebig's extract in the bottom left. The back of the card has a color image of a gaucho on horseback.
