Volume 1 has handwritten note attached to front fly-leaf: " Best edition (underlined), entirely re-written, and only 50 copies printed in this size to range with the 'Bibliotheca Spenceriana.'" NIneteenth-century armorial bookplates of Frederick Adolphus Philbrick, Middle Temple, and Richard Lane Freer, and a printed ownership label of the American Art Association, Book and Print Department, dated May 10, 1916, all on front paste-down. |
