Armorial bookplates on paste-downs with motto "Aequo adeste animo", which an ad in ABE Books database identifies as the arms of Sir John Cope, a British soldier and member of Parliament. Also, bookplates of Lois Goddard Morrison. Lois Goddard Morrison marked certain pages with strips of paper to study the ornaments on these pages: volume 1, pages 43*, 121, 141, 245, 256, 347, and 371; volume 2, pages 36* (Hofman p72), 57* (bowl of flowers), 165* (eagle), 167, 183, 262*(Savell chicken & flower baskets), 282, 299* (heart + scroll), and 326. Most of these strips of paper were removed, but those marking page numbers with asterisks contain handwritten notes, so these are being kept as ephemera. |
