Volume 1 is is inscribed by [J.?] A. Roebuck on front flyleaf, with interesting annotation: "Napoleon when he read this book at St. Helena said 'that either there must have been two hands in it, or that Archdeacon Cox must have been a very clever man, since the description of the battles were those of a military man.' General Hamilton Smith's daughter said they were written by her father." Volume 3 has four unnumbered pages of advertising at the front, which contains an annotation in pencil about mixing colors.. |
