Absent-minded inventor Shurik has built a time machine in his apartment. When it accidentally sends a thief and his apartment manager, a look-alike for Ivan the Terrible, to the tsar's palace during Ivan the Terrible's reign, and the Tsar finds himself in modern Moscow, complications arise...
