By His Excellency John Rutledge, Esq; governor and commander in chief of South-Carolina, a proclamation : whereas the enemy have invaded this state, and now occupy John's and James Island ... I do hereby ... call upon all persons capable of bearing arms, and who usually reside in this town, or have any property therein ... and all such as may be draughted or ordered to march hither, immediately ... Given under my hand and the great seal, at Charlestown, this second day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty, and in the fourth year of American independence.
