James Clavell's Shōgun /
Chamberlain plays Blackthorne, an English navigator shipwrecked on the shores of feudal Japan, who becomes a samurai. Mifune is Toranaga, the warlord driven to become Shōgun-- supreme military dictator. Shimada plays Mariko, Blackthorn's interpreter and ill-fated lover.
