| Abstract: | The relationship between teachers' allocation of time for computer-assisted instruction (CAI) in reading and reading achievement scores of students in grades three and five was investigated. This study proposed the variable, allocation of computer-assisted time for reinforcing basic reading skills in reading, that could in part explain the variance in student reading achievement scores. Hypotheses advanced were: 1. Primary teachers report different curricular emphasis in terms of time spent on basic skills in reading using the computer than do intermediate teachers. 2. Students who spend more time practicing reading skills through Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) in their classroom have higher reading achievement scores in their classes than do students who spend less time in practicing reading skills through CAI in their classroom. 3. There is a difference in the relationships between student achievement in reading and practice time in CAI for grade three and grade five. ... |
