Description
Abstract:"This book concerns emphasizing situations and diagnoses of children and adolescents set in the contexts of connections between them and foundations of child development from developmental science. It addresses children's and adolescents' adaptation to acute and chronic illnesses and family and ecological situations that impact early developmental and behavioral health. The book includes four sections on, respectively, family systems and ecological contexts (outcomes in children with chronic health conditions, treatment adherence, pain, traumatic stress, and death, dying, palliative care, and bereavement); child developmental contexts and child health conditions (gender identity and gender dysphoria, genetic disorders, congenital conditions, central nervous system disorders, sickle cell disease, cancer, pulmonary disorders and congenital heart disease, Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, and pediatric obesity); developmental-behavioral and mental health conditions (autism spectrum disorder, prematurity, neurosensory disorders, sleep, elimination disorders, attention disorders, internalizing and externalizing behavior problems, eating disorders, and suicidal thinking and behavior); and assessments, interventions, and treatments (concepts and psychometric issues; learning, cognition, and intellectual disorders; psychological consultation; integrated behavioral health; and relationship-focused interventions and psychotherapy). The handbook coeditors-in-chief recruited a diverse array of outstanding professionals from developmental science, medicine, and pediatric psychology. This stellar roster prompts trainees, researchers, practitioners, and other professionals to explore new ways to understand and manage child and adolescent health and well-being, and promote deeper interdisciplinary collaborations that can support growth and development."--Preface.
