| Item Description: | Title page printed in color. Some plates printed on recto and verso. "Advertisers' addenda": 18 unnumbered pages at end. An advertisement in the Printers' Circular (Jan. 1871) states that it took an entire year and some 515,000 impressions to produce the edition. The ad goes on to say 250 copies were "printed on extra flesh-tinted paper and elegantly bound in calf or Turkey morocco antique." The general edition was printed on white paper and bound in cloth."--Vendor's description. The Cushing Library/Laughlin copy is one of 250 copies printed on special paper, in the publisher's deluxe calf gilt binding. |
