| Item Description: | Typewritten signed letter from Harold Raymond on Chatto and Windus of London headed notepaper to Dr. H.C. Hendry [book collector], dated August 25th 1942, sending him the parcel of typescripts and some manuscript excercise books. A listing on verso of the manuscripts and typescripts. Handwritten signed letter from Powys to "my dear Charles", [Chatto & Windus partner Charles H. Prentice?] dated November 17th 1931 which Raymond explains he "found attached to the typescript of Come and dine". Letter starts "Before Dicky was killed I had almost finished this story" [death of his son Theodore Charles 'Dicky' Powys in Kenya in 1931] and later "I take a holiday from story writing for now, I think it's time". Also mentions Francis [his second son] typing up the manuscript. |
