Summary:The religious superior of the Mercedarians (also known as Order of Our Lady of Mercy for the Ransom of Captives) redistributes a decree issued by the King of Spain four years earlier, requiring that Mercedarian convents throughout the Spanish empire contain at least eight friars each, and authorizing the friars to collect alms to be used for the release of hostages taken by the Apaches in New Spain (including Texas), the Pampas in the Province of Buenos Aires, and the Moros in the Philippines.
