| Summary: | Abstract: A 2-volume treatise for scientists and clinicians contains 19 authoritative overview articles by experts in their respective fields, represents the first comprehensive survey of the chemistry and biology of the retinoids. The 2-volume set begins with the basic chemistry concepts of the retinoids (including vitamin A) and their analogs, and progresses towards biological aspects, and then to clinical considerations. Volume 1 deals with new advances in organic and trace chemistry, chemical and biological methods of retinoid analysis and a comprehensive survey of vitamin A in human and animal nutrition. Volume 2 reviews the biochemistry and metabolism of retinoids and retinoid bindingproteins; cellular and molecular mechanisms of action of the retinoids; toxicological, teratological, and immunological aspects; and the applications of retinoids to cancer and dermatology. Chemical structures of the retinoids are appended.(wz). |
