Description
Summary:Abstract: A reference text for nutrition and biochemical researchers provides a current perspective of manganese (Mn) in cellular function and describes experimental approaches that can be used in investigations of nutrition, transport, catalysis, enzyme regulation, and the use of Mn as a biophysical probe. The 21 text chapters, prepared by experts in their respective fields, are organized among 3 principal themes: Mn nutrition and transport; enzyme systems, intermediary metabolism, and metabolic regulation; and studies of Mn interactions and binding sites. Topical areas include Mn uptake, metabolism, and intracellular transport, toxicity, bioavailability, involvement in enzymatic reactions and activity, and nutrient-nutrient interactions. Numerous tabular data, illustrations, and literature citations are presented throughout the text.
