| Summary: | "In 2021, the "Research Center for Chinese Cultural Subjectivity in Taiwan" at National Chengchi University was honored to host the distinguished philosopher David B. Wong for a series of five online lectures on the topic, "Metaphor and Analogy in Early Chinese Thought: Governance within the Person, State, and Society." Using the question of appropriate governance within the individual, the state, and society as his starting point, Wong explored the role of analogy and metaphor in classical Chinese thought, offering his interpretations of various Chinese philosophers based on their use of these devices. These five lectures showcase Wong's years of scholarship and profound philosophical insights. Following the lectures, we held a two-day workshop in which scholars from Taiwan and abroad engaged in in-depth discussions of the key points raised, with Wong responding to each comment in detail. This book compiles the five lectures, along with the comments and Wong's responses, for the benefit of the academic community. We hope this project fosters further discussion about the contemporary relevance of Chinese philosophy"-- Provided by publisher. |
