Beyond these necessary conditions for hope, significant disagreement arises about sufficiency conditions. Moreover, is hope always a good in our lives? Does it make sense to hope for our environment in the face of radical climate change? Should people with histories of oppression hope, or would they be better served by other attitudes, such as commitment? How do theological perspectives on hope inform our lives?
