Description
Summary:Despite being an important figure and a close friend of Mahatma Gandhi, Jamnalal Bajaj has not been included in modern depictions of the struggle for a free India. This book sheds more light on the life and achievements of Jamnalal, the adopted grandson of a wealthy Marwari merchant, Seth Bachhraj. It shows how he handled the businesses he inherited from his grandfather and how his search for a guru led him to his meeting with Gandhi. From there, the book turns to Jamnalal's unwavering support for Gandhi and his various movements against the British rule, including the non-cooperation movement and the plans for civil disobedience. It looks at the connections and relationships Jamnalal formed with notable individuals such as Jawaharlal Nehru and Vallabhbhai Patel. Aside from examining Jamnalal's public life, the book also considers the effects his public life had on his family and businesses. This book does not hide the possibility that Jamnalal was the only industrialist to risk the wrath of the British officials with his continued patronage for Gandhi's efforts.
