| Summary: | "Steering against superbugs is about navigating barriers and opportunities in the global governance of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The book's nineteen chapters offer a broad range of social science perspectives, structured around six AMR governance themes. These include: (i) how AMR challenges are framed and conceptualized internationally; (ii) potentials for global coordination and leadership; (iii) governance from below; (iv) the One Health approach to AMR; (v) advocacy and awareness; and (vi) regulatory responses that can bolster AMR mitigation. The contributions in this volume offer specific and original insights about what global governance of AMR means, and ways to help solve AMR issues. They show that effective governance relies crucially on pursuing local level implementation of key policies, and equitable recognition of how AMR can be addressed across multiple sectors within countries but also across the Global North and South. Rather than endorsing grand governance strategies, therefore, the book points to perspectives including taking a polycentric approach to global governance, building coalitions across sectors, targeting feasible actions, and focusing on structures that control how individuals behave"--Publisher's description. |
