Description
Summary:This dataset is designed for teaching thematic narrative analysis of qualitative interview data. It draws on transcripts from a doctoral research project conducted by the author at a post-1992 UK university, exploring how undergraduate law students experience race, identity, and participation in team-based learning environments. The data was collected through semistructured interviews with a diverse group of students who reflected on classroom power dynamics, perceptions of meritocracy, and feelings of belonging and exclusion. The guide introduces students to a combined approach of thematic and narrative analysis, helping them identify both recurring patterns and the ways students construct meaning through personal storytelling. It also highlights how dominant ideologies, such as color-blind meritocracy, are reproduced in everyday educational spaces. This example offers learners the opportunity to practice coding, thematizing, and interpreting narrative structure using real-world student reflections. The data exemplar is accompanied by a teaching guide and a student guide.
