| Summary: | This dataset is designed to teach ways of examining speculative fictions created by anonymous contributors, using thematic and assemblage analysis. It is provided by Professor Jen Ross from the University of Edinburgh and Professor Anna Wilson from the University of Glasgow, based on anonymous participant-created texts submitted to a web site as part of the Telling Data Stories: Higher Education After Surveillance project, which ran in 2020. The dataset is the full set of 34 stories submitted on the web site between 2020 and 2022. The stories can be examined thematically and in terms of the assemblages of objects, characters, policies, spaces, and technologies produced within them. By attending to imaginaries of the future in these kinds of texts, thematic and assemblage analysis methods reveal relationships and possibilities that are already at work in the present. The dataset file is accompanied by a teaching guide and a student guide. |
