Data were collected through unstructured observations and semistructured interviews with 80 pupils (40 boys and 40 girls) from two state-funded primary schools in Athens. The interview excerpts offer insight into how boys and girls understand and negotiate gender, while the observational data reveal the complex interplay of playground-gendered power relations and highlight crucial gender asymmetries in primary school-aged girls' and boys' games. Together, these data sources offer valuable opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience in conducting qualitative data analysis using thematic analysis.
