| Summary: | As technology continues to advance, institutions of higher education have adopted various technologies to ease communications between students, staff, faculty, and any other stakeholder seeking institutional information. In the past, institutions adopted telephones and then email, and now with the rise of artificial intelligence, chatbots embedded on institutional websites. From here, this case study is based on human-computer interaction research of chatbots embedded on institutional (.edu) websites and whether these chatbots can provide financial wellness counseling to college students. In particular, this case study will address the process of formulating a conversation protocol to test chatbots as to the depth in which the chatbots had been programmed to provide financial wellness counseling to college students, emphasizing the specific methodological and practical challenges of interacting with this new and still-developing technology. As a result, this case study will inform how junior researchers may conceptualize conversation protocols in their own research and implement these protocols to test technologies that mediate human-computer interaction in educational and noneducational settings. |
