| Abstract: | Proceedings of Geo-Denver 2007, New Peaks in Geotechnics, held in Denver, Colorado, February 18-21, 2007. Sponsored by the Geo-Institute of ASCE. This Geotechnical Special Publication contains five papers on geotechnical engineering education. These papers address the challenges of effective geotechnical engineering instruction, especially how best to teach a highly practical and field-oriented subject in the classroom environment. Topics include: exposing students to qualified practitioners and case histories; a spreadsheet methodology for teaching aspects of site investigation; computationally based discrete element modeling that illustrates fundamental soil properties; and fostering the development of more female university faculty in geotechnical engineering. |
