Summary:Debates over whether police officers should be required to have college degrees and whether such degrees improve officers' performance has been ensuing for decades, with little agreement or consensus emerging. Higher education has been presumed to make police more efficient at performing their jobs. Other research findings speculate that higher education may be irrelevant because the education officers receive at a college/university is quite similar to the training officers receive in police academies. However, little direction has been decided upon. This case study further explores this debate.
