| Item Description: | "To this volume is prefixed a third dissertation on the Gesta Romanorum, by Thomas Warton, B.D., Fellow of Trinity College, Oxford, and of the Society of Antiquaries, and late Professor of Poetry in the University of Oxford"--Title page, volume III. Volume 1 is dated 1774; volume 2, 1778; and volume 3, 1781. Imprints to volumes 2 and 3 lack name of T. Becket. The Cushing Library/Rare Books copy was acquired as part of the Lois Goddard Morrison Collection of Eighteenth Century Literature. An index to the first three volumes, "An index to The history of English poetry", compiled by Thomas Fillingham, was published in 1806 by Lackington, Allen and Co. Some copies include "A fragment or first portion of the fourth volume of the History of English poetry, by Thomas Warton, B.D. [London : approximately 1789?] (88 pages).
