Description
Summary:My research uses the survey method to evaluate the political implications of attitudes related to financial literacy and economic inequality. Results suggest that financial literacy is strongly and positively connected to attitudes that are widely considered to be healthy in democratic contexts, including confidence in government and political efficacy. This case study discusses the challenges of researching these timely topics and for measuring difficult concepts such as people's perceptions of their own finances, financial literacy, trust in government, political efficacy, and views about economic inequality. My discussion provides guidance for collecting national survey data using crowdsourcing platforms such as Amazon Mechanical Turk. It also explores some fundamentals of research design, including the importance of distinguishing between correlation and causation.
