After their arrival, they are brought to live in a a broken down, one room shack inside a ma'abara, or transit camp in Haifa. Shabati attempts to make enough money to purchase adequate housing by embarking on money-making schemes that are comical and frequently satirize the political and social stereotypes in Israel of the time.
