Description
Summary:Sport has been seen as one of the most important practices within the constitution of many modern societies. Thus, both the practice of sport and the expectation generated around sport have led to diverse dynamics that have shaped individual and social identities. Within the Spanish-speaking world, specifically, some narratives linked to sports have transcended to build identities that touch on everything from the social and political level to that of gender and masculinities. In this book, entitled 'Art and sport in Latin America: Sports culture in literature and cinema,' the goal is to attend to the different spaces on the practice and use of sport within narratives such as literary fiction or cinema. The works of the researchers that make up this volume aim to offer a contemporary overview of different aspects of sports practices throughout the Hispanic world: from soccer literature in South America and the Spanish peninsula to the sports and combat shows that are part of North and Central America. Briefly, the parts that make up the book are the relationship of football with national identity, the relationship of sport with the creation of individual female identity and immigration, the analysis of literary fiction characters that investigate the details of personal success and failure within sport and, finally, some of the aspects that transcend beyond what is the practice or sporting spectacle. as well as the creative resources that sports language can offer to literature.
