Description
Summary:The rapid deployment of automated vehicles (AVs) presents both opportunities and challenges, especially for first responders tasked with ensuring public safety during emergencies. This product is an output of a research project, led by the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, in partnership with the Texas A&M Engineering Extension. Two resources were developed by the project team to enhance Texas first responders' understanding of AV technology, as well as their ability to respond safely and effectively to adverse incidents involving AVs. They include: a guide that includes best practices and 19 different scenarios that first responders may encounter with AVs, and a separate guide that provides information to help responders to quickly identify vehicles and determine their level of autonomy, such as photographs and descriptions of key components for each AV model.
