This publication emerged from the reconstruction of Zdeněk Beran's (1937-2014) installation entitled Rehabilitation Department of Dr. Dr. (1970-1971), which was prepared in late 2023 and early 2024 by the Olomouc Museum of Art - Central European Forum as part of its long-term mission to study, describe, place in the global context and modernise exceptional works of art and the unique culture of Central and Eastern Europe. The work is a collection of data and information on the individual phases of Beran's project, providing them with the necessary documentation and recording apparatus, and it also summarises information and findings associated with its current manifestation - symbolic elevation - accompanied by an effort to verify its semantic and emotional comprehensibility. The book itself is an environment structured by an imaginary 'optical grid' - conceptual categories and structures conveying Beran's interest in the image, the process of its construction and imaginative reconstruction. It is a serious attempt, an experiment, a test, a game - and it encourages the reader to take this very same approach. |
