Item Description:The Auk-class minesweeper, commissioned July 9, 1943 participated in numerous operations across the Pacific Theater, including the invasions of Ulithi, Palau, and Leyte. The ship traveled 122,196 miles during 2 cruises 1944 to 1946, marked with dotted and solid lines, in the Pacific Ocean.
On each side of map are large photographic illustrations; on the left the ship on "Whangpoo River, Shanghai, China, 23rd December 1945" [Huangpu River] plus a close-up of her successes marked on her hull "138 Jap mines, 1 Jap plane"; on the right a picture of the crew aboard the ship, and overlaid a reproduction of a photograph of an exploding naval mine.
Includes list of 5 skippers.
