|a Der Begriff "Konkrete Kunst" wurde 1930 von dem niederländischen Künstler Theo van Doesburg geprägt: Die Kunstwerke sollten ausschließlich aus "plastischen" Elementen, das heißt aus Flächen, Farben und Linien konstruiert werden, um Gedanken optisch zum Ausdruck zu bringen und dadurch eine eigenständige "konkrete" Realität zu schaffen. Über 50 Jahren hinweg hat der norwegische Kunstsammler Erling Neby eine außergewöhnliche Sammlung geometrischer und konkreter Kunst aufgebaut. Sie umfasst europäische, amerikanische und nordische Kunst und konzentriert sich vor allem auf Werke der Nachkriegszeit, darunter führende Künstler wie Victor Vasarely, Max Bill, Auguste Herbin, Josef Albers, Aase Texmon Rygh und Olle Bærtling, aber auch neue Künstler*innengenerationen, die sich auf unterschiedliche Weise einer geometrischabstrakten Ausdrucksform bedienen. Der Katalog dokumentiert eine große Ausstellung im Kode Museum in Bergen mit mehr als 100 Werken aus der Sammlung, die durch ihre persönliche Auswahl ein komplexes Bild der künstlerischen Positionen und des nachhaltigen Einflusses der geometrischen und konkreten Kunst vermittelt.
