Details lines in operation and sanctioned lines, with proposed lines indicated in red ink. All railways are numbered in relation to a reference key in the upper right hand corner of the map. This records the railway's name, its engineer/s, the number of branches and lines in each, and the railway's total length. The reference key also lists proposed 'miscellaneous improvements' in the metropolitan area.
Inset map: "An enlargement of the proposed lines in the eastern part of the metropolis", scale approximately 1:31,680, 2 in.= 1 mile.
Map cut, mounted on linen, folded into attached cover, with Stanford's advertisements pasted inside front cover.
