Description
Summary:The collection contains two diaries by unknown authors. The diary of a young girl in Worcester, Massachusetts, for the period 1828 to 1832 refers to visits, local records, and town celebrations. The diary of a young female schoolteacher in Andover, Massachusetts, details her teaching jobs and comments on Bible passages discussed in sermons she has heard. In her 31 December 1854 entry, she mentions going to hear "Rev. Antinette [sic] Brown"--I.e., abolitionist and women's rights advocate Antoinette Louisa Brown Blackwell (1825-1921), the first woman ordained as a minister in the United States. The diarist comments, in her 20 January 1855 entry, that this is the "25th anniversary of my birthday."
