| Summary: | Research strategy plays a pivotal role in reaching conclusions in research projects. I chose a case-oriented research strategy for this study entitled "People's access to information in Bangladesh: A study on selected union digital centers." This case-oriented study was mainly an impact evaluation study of a legislative act. Evaluating the impact of any act is important for enacting a new act or modifying a preexisting act. The basic unit of analysis of this case study is the Union Digital Centre (hereinafter UDC), which is the main information-providing wing of rural areas in Bangladesh. In this article, I explain how and why I decided to pursue a case-oriented research strategy and the advantages of using it. The purpose of this writing is to provide an overview of how a case-oriented research strategy helps to explore the impact of an act. I also tried to show how the selection of variables and indicators are essential for designing a research project. In this case study, I used both qualitative and quantitative data but quantitative data were used to a limited degree, whereas qualitative data dominate. In this case study, I also describe various data collection tools such as Focus Group Discussions (hereinafter FGDs), interviews with a questionnaire, key informant's interview, documents review, and review of websites. In addition, I also mention how I ensure the reliability and validity of the data of this case study. Moreover, various data collection problems and overcoming strategies are also mentioned. In addition, I show how ethical issues should be considered in a case-oriented study. |
