| Summary: | This case study examines the methodologic exploration of a study based on the ritual practice called Kherai performed by the Bodo community of Assam, India. The performance of Kherai is a complex form of communication through visual, kinesthetic, and aesthetic aspects of human movement with the aural dimension of the Bodo musical sense. This case study investigates the processes of documenting firsthand experiences and careful observation of culture and performance, which are highly extraordinary and significant human attributes. Ritualistic performance is shared work by the community. Within this context, every participant in the sociocultural event becomes a potential informant, and their perspectives and worldviews are extremely valuable to the researcher. This case study discusses how the researcher has adopted sequential participant observation to record the community's imaginations, feelings, and prayers, as demonstrated by their nonverbal performance in the Kherai practice. This case study aims to enhance the ability of researchers to cultivate innovative thinking to systematically analyze visual experiences and document cultural phenomena that are observed sequentially and give meaning to them. |
