| Summary: | Within the field of Afro-Indigenous studies, scholars must consider their own positionality, various approaches to conducting research in an ethical manner, and how they engage with their subjects and subject matter. This case study explores the possibilities of Afro-Indigenous methods. The case study asks the following questions: What is the relationship between blackness and indigeneity? What are best approaches to designing and putting into practice research within Afro-Indigenous studies? Using two case studies from my own research projects, I examine the importance of culturally relevant research method practices and offer a practical guide for researchers invested in making human connections within the social science method approaches, including what I call an anticolonial research methodology. |
