Description
Summary:(Hautefort) Two first editions from the private press of Guionne-Élisabeth-Josephine de Montmorency-Laval, ducesse de Luynes, at the Château de Dampierre. Between 1797 and 1803, she typeset and printed at least seventeen titles, including biographies of royal womes (as here), private devotionals, her own verse collections and French translations of Robinson Crusoe and The Life of ... Jonathan Swift. This intimate life of Marie de Hautefort, confidante of Louis XIII and lady-in-waiting to Queen Anne , was written by a confidante shortly before the noblewoman's death. It reveals Hautefort's innermost thought about her royal relationships, court intrigues, and her marriage to the Duke of Schomberg. Adry, an Oratorian bibliographer and librarian, edited it from a manuscript he had acquired, and provided commentary and historical context in fifteen pages of endnotes.--Condensed from vendor's description.
(Accorambona) Adry states that he wrote this, the first biography of Vittoria in French, as a companion to the life of Hautefort. Accordingly, these are a fine example of linked books, "Two or more bibliographic items withing a single binding that are linked by a reference within the items themselves other than on their own title-pages" (Hunter & Nash).--From vendor's description.
