Peter Owen Jones explores the roots of religious conflict in the Middle East. His month-long journey starts in Jerusalem with sites sacred to three of the world's biggest religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. He arrives on Good Friday and meets Christian pilgrims retracing Christ's final steps to Golgotha. Over the Jewish festival of Purim he questions Zionist settlers and the father of a Palestinian suicide bomber about the causes of intolerance and the effects of the violence. He travels to Syria to explore Islam and the mystical Sufi tradition of the Whirling Derivishes. In Turkey Pete discovers the older and much less well known folk religion of the Alevis. Venturing across the border into Iraq, he tracks down the ancient and obscure group known as the Yazidis at their temple in the mountains of the north. His journey is full of uncomfortable revelations about the nature of religious intolerance, but ends with a redemptive message of peace.
