Due to its status as China's beloved national symbol, the country has worked for decades to perfect breeding the bears in captivity. In 2016, the panda's conservation status was upgraded from endangered to just vulnerable. The partnership between China and America's Smithsonian National Zoo has brought the giant panda back from near extinction. This research suggests the giant panda can be saved.
