| Summary: | On 30 September 2021, in front of a pandemic-masked audience at Le Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, pioneering collaborators Max Cooper and Uèle Lamore set out to explore the minimalistic music of the revolutionary new music leader Terry Riley. With a full score of music in front of her, accomplished arranger/conductor Lamore led a seven-piece group of string players bowing into a gently shimmering rhythmic sway. To their side, Cooper, a master electronica and techno producer, provided the colors and textures of the music with a variety of sounds from his polysynth orchestration of knobs, keyboards and computer screens. He often surprised such as when he crumpled paper and squeezed plastic bottles into the microphone for effect. The music was mesmerizing with layers of sounds that were filled with curiosity and mystery. The 30-minute program originally produced for French television evoked the feel of dance, the depth of drama and the pulse of the extraordinary. At the conclusion of the performance, Lamore and Cooper embraced in celebration of their welcomed tribute to Riley's musical vision. Dan Ouellette.
