Description
Summary:Humans have a long and complex relationship with dogs. The basis of this relationship has been built on two very different ideas - firstly that dogs were wolves in all but name, and secondly that they were a human-like member of the family. But how well do we really know dogs and what has science taught us about these animals? Our behaviour towards dogs can vary from extreme over-indulgence to extreme cruelty. Could this have contributed to the behavioural problems of dogs today? Do we need to take a new approach to our relationship with dogs? And should we change the way we treat them as a result? In this programme, presenter Dallas Campbell delves into the Horizon archive to show how our understanding of our relationship with dogs has changed through science.
