Description
Summary:This video deals with the quantization of the electromagnetic field introduced by Paul Dirac in 1927. The video is divided in 5 segments. The first segment is a brief review of the Maxwell equations, which describe the space-time evolution of the electromagnetic field, i.e. the light. The second segment introduces the Coulomb gauge that is the mathematical tool used to simplify the theoretical description of the electromagnetic field. In the third segment the author gives a brief review of the electric and magnetic contributions to the total energy of the light, while the fourth segment discusses the quantization of the electromagnetic field following the approach proposed by Paul Dirac in 1927. The last segment gives technical details of the second quantization method of Dirac, which is based on ladder operators, i.e. creation and annihilation operators, acting of the Fock space.
