| Summary: | The Glued intraocular lens technique was introduced by Prof. Agarwal in 2007, and it differed from the Scharioth intraocular lens technique by creating scleral flaps under which the haptics were externalized and by using fibrin glue to seal the scleral flaps and conjunctiva. This had advantages of avoiding any exposed part of the haptic as well as decreasing the risk of endophthalmitis by having the sclerotomy completely covered by the scleral flap. The fibrin glue was not actually aiding to the stability but just to close the scleral flap and conjunctiva. The stability of the Glued IOL technique comes from the intrascleral Scharioth tuck. This series of educational videos shows the Glued intraocular lens technique and basically breaks the steps down into multiple understandable bits. It starts with an introductory segment on intrascleral haptic fixation and then goes on to describe the steps of the Glued intraocular lens technique in detail. |
