Summary:Not all patients are good candidates for moderate, or procedural, sedation. Pregnant women, and patients with kidney, liver, and cardiac disease may be excluded from receiving sedating drugs, as well as those patients with respiratory compromise, acute narrow angle glaucoma, unstable arrhythmias. In addition, young children, infants, neonates must be treated with caution. The purpose of this program is to provide nurses and others an understanding of monitoring and managing complications of moderate sedation, and the special responsibilities of performing moderate sedation on children.
